Who he is — in his words.
“I am a father, a farmer, and a businessman. I’m investing in Iowa and I’m my own biggest donor. I don’t answer to donors or corporations — only to God, my family, and the people of this state.”

Zach is a sixth-generation Iowan. His Iowa story starts in 1862, when Hans Schluntz answered Governor Kirkwood’s call and joined Iowa’s Second Cavalry — the Hawkeyes on Horseback. The family homestead in Belle Plaine was built in the 1880s. That farm lasted 105 years. When it was sold, the farming line ended. Zach built a business, bought land back, launched a school, and has been putting his hometown back together, including the historic King Theater and the Chicago Northwestern depot.

The system puts farmers last on the best farmland in the country. He will file antitrust action against the input monopolies extorting producers, oppose eminent domain for private profit, and build a path for the next generation to get land.

Iowa ranks #4 nationally for net outmigration of 25-to-29-year-olds. Iowa First means schools back in the national top five, tax relief that makes a first home possible, and development money that goes to Iowa companies with roots here — not firms that take the credit and leave.
Iowa First is more than a slogan.
It is a commitment to prioritize Iowa families, Iowa-owned businesses, and Iowa’s long-term health over corporate interests, out-of-state investors, and political expediency. Iowans deserve a government that prioritizes people, low taxes, clean water, healthy kids, safe communities, and excellent schools. Local ownership and stewardship matter — those who live here care most about our communities. Iowa’s universities should solve Iowa’s problems before global ones.
